Runningback and Receiver news plus day one of camp!

*Both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington have shown up for day one of training camp. Great news for the Jets that both of their backs have decided to show up despite unhappy contract situations. With Jones, it's unlikely that any deal gets done, but Washington should be signed to an extension soon. It was assumed he would show up in camp once he got a deal done, but that doesn't seem to be the case as no deal has been reported. Good job by Washington getting to camp early, despite not having a new deal. It shows he's a team-first player, and it increases the chance that the Jets reward him for it. Jones deserves credit, too.

*The Jets have also spoken to the agent of free agent receiver Matt Jones. Jones was a former first round pick from Jacksonville who had various off-field issues involving cocaine and breaking his probation. I think he's a perfect fit for the Jets. He's 6'6" and fast, and he was finally starting to tap into his vast potential last season as David Garrard's #1 option. He's no star, but he was a project coming out of college, and he's taking some strides towards reaching it. He's bigger than any receiver currently on the roster, so at the very least, he could be a helpful redzone target for a team that will likely need to capitalize on all their redzone opportunities.
